Building stronger alliance with African counterparts
IAACA spares no efforts in expanding its network worldwide and fostering collaboration with international and regional organizations to create synergy in the fight against corruption. This is exemplified by the Association's participation in the 6th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the African Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities (AAACA) held in Johannesburg, South Africa on 31 July – 1 August 2023 to consolidate the working relationship with the anti-corruption counterparts in Africa.
Mr Simon Peh, IAACA then-President, spoke at the event, which was attended by about 100 delegates of AAACA's members authorities and partner organizations. He shared the recent work of IAACA in the African region, and invited AAACA and the delegates to join hands with the Association to win the battle against corruption.
Riding on this special opportunity, the IAACA delegation held bilateral meetings with 10 African ACAs and international organizations to establish dialogue and explore possibilities of collaboration. Under the arrangement of Adv. Andy Mothibi, IAACA Vice President and Head and Chief Executive of the Special Investigating Unit of South Africa, a meeting was held with the Executive Committee Members of AAACA to enhance mutual understanding and discuss areas of cooperation. This participation was most fruitful and fostered closer relationships between IAACA and African ACAs.
Joint Webinar with European Partners against Corruption and European contact-point network against corruption (EPAC/EACN)
Over 400 participants from 75 anti-corruption authorities around the world participated in the webinar entitled “Corruption without borders. How to cooperate to tackle it” co-hosted by the IAACA and EPAC/EACN on 13 July 2023.
The webinar was opened by the distinguished representatives of IAACA and EPAC/ECAN, namely H.E. Mr Fikrat Mammadov, Vice-President of IAACA and Minister of Justice of Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr Traian Barlici, Deputy Vice-President of EPAC/ECAN, Mr Egidijus Radzevičius, Deputy Director of Special Investigation Service of Republic of Lithuanian, and Mr Kenneth Wong, Secretary-General of IAACA. Mr Adil Abilov, Vice Chair of the Council of Europe Committee of Experts on the Operation of European Conventions on Cooperation in Criminal Matters & Director of International Cooperation Department of the Ministry of Justice of the Azerbaijan Republic, served as the moderator.
In the webinar, Mr Lawrence Chung, Assistant Director of the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC), Hong Kong, China, Mrs Alexandra Lăncrănjan, Chief Prosecutor of the Liaison Bureau, National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) of Romania and Mr Darius Mickevičius, Head of Secretariat of EPAC/EACN shared with the participants the latest global practices and experience in anti-corruption work, so as to enhance graft fighters’ knowledge and skills to effectively prevent and combat corruption.
Online meeting with the Office of the Comptroller General of Ecuador (CGE)
To strengthen IAACA's outreach to ACAs in the Latin American region, the Secretariat held an online meeting with Mr Daniel Crespo Pazmiño, International Affairs Specialist of International Affairs Office of CGE in July 2023. During the meeting, the IAACA and CGE representatives introduced their recent work for enhancing mutual understanding to facilitate further collaboration.
