ICAC’s Welcome Reception and Technical Visit
Mr Y M Woo, the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) of Hong Kong, China, welcomed the delegates in the ICAC Headquarters. Mr Woo said on the occasion that he was “confident that, with the solid support of anti-corruption authorities worldwide and with your immense dedications towards the Association, the development of IAACA will scale to a new height.” The reception was followed by a guided tour in the ICAC Headquarters, in which delegates visited the major investigation facilities in the building.
To strengthen liaison and collaboration among anti-corruption authorities, bilateral meetings were held between Mr Y M Woo, ICAC Commissioner, and individual delegations. In the meetings, Mr Woo shared with the delegates the latest ICAC’s initiatives in international anti-corruption collaboration, such as the enhancement of ICAC’s professional training for overseas anti-corruption practitioners under the new Hong Kong International Academy Against Corruption, as well as the 8th ICAC Symposium which will be held in May 2024. All the parties were eager to strengthen collaboration bilaterally and under the IAACA platform to fight and prevent corruption.
In-depth Briefings on Work Strategies of ICAC
The events in Hong Kong provides a good opportunity for the delegates to exchange their latest anti-corruption strategies with each other. For example, ICAC arranged in-depth briefings on its work strategies for the delegates from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission of Kenya (EACC) and Special Investigating Unit of South Africa (SIU). The briefings featured ICAC’s mandates, legal powers and strategies for anti-corruption law enforcement, systemic prevention and community education. The delegates also visited an ICAC regional office to understand more about how ICAC encourages citizens to report corruption, and how it receives reports at the community level.
Cultural Visit to Hong Kong Palace Museum
Amidst the packed schedule, the Secretariat arranged a cultural visit to the Hong Kong Palace Museum for the delegates to have a taste of Chinese heritage in this modern city. The Museum, opened in 2022, is committed to the study and appreciation of Chinese art and culture, as well as advancing dialogue among world civilisations. It features a world-class collection of Chinese art, including gold and silver wares, ceramics, paintings, calligraphy and furniture.
