Recent updates on the National Transparency Authority (NTA) of Greece
Work meetings with the Integrity Authority and the Ministry of Justice of Romania
The National Transparency Authority (NTA) respectively held work meetings with the Integrity Authority and the Ministry of Justice of Romania in Bucharest on 30 and 31 January 2023.
The meetings between the NTA and the Integrity Authority took place under the framework of the Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) that the two organizations have signed. The MoC aims to enhance their collaboration through the exchange of expertise on current challenges in the policy area of public integrity, such as the use of digital tools for the prevention of conflict-of-interest situations, the implementation of measures related to lobbying activities and the development of innovative systems for the management and verification of asset declarations by public officials.
The discussion between the NTA and the Ministry of Justice covered the implementation of gift policy by the two countries as well as the design, monitoring and evaluation of National Anti-Corruption Strategic Plans.
The representatives of the organizations agreed to continue their communication and explore additional fields of cooperation.
Participation in the Annual Conference of the European Lobbying Registrars’ Network
Policy officers of the NTA attended the Annual Conference of the European Lobbying Registrars’ Network (ELRN) in Edinburgh on 30 and 31 March 2023, in which more than 20 public agencies participated.
The ELRN provides a forum for competent authorities to freely discuss challenges and good practices of regulating lobbying and how to apply the implementation mechanisms.
The NTA representatives took the opportunity to share the national regulatory framework regarding lobbying activities as well as to update the members of the network on the latest developments regarding the Transparency Register.
Completion of the 1st Phase of the 2023 Student Competition "Integrity Leaders of Tomorrow"
The first phase of the 2nd Panhellenic Student Competition "Say No to violence, Yes to friendship. Block bullying", organized by the NTA in cooperation with the Ministry of Education & Religious Affairs, the National Committee for Human Rights, the Library of Parliament and Educational Television, has been concluded.
A total of 1,975 students from 176 schools all over Greece participated in the competition and submitted 1,184 works of art. The students were invited to express themselves creatively through paintings, collages, posters, videos, etc. and to reflect on the values of respect, justice, integrity and solidarity. The competition aims to inform and raise awareness among children about bullying, domestic violence, diversity, human rights, respect, trust, truth and integrity. It is part of a series of NTA’s educational initiatives aiming to raise awareness and instill in students, the citizens of tomorrow, a culture of zero tolerance towards corruption.
The organizing Authorities have set up a special committee to conduct evaluation. Innovative educational materials, created specifically for this competition by the NTA in cooperation with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, as well as laptops will be presented to winners at a special event and an art exhibition will be organized by the NTA to display all the artwork.
